Excel based pricing tools certainly have their disadvantages compared to web based tools, chief among those information security.
Any password you put on an Excel file is crackable, whether at the worksheet or file level. I have a couple Excel password crackers on my computer that do the job in a few seconds and have been readily available on the internet for many years.
Any Office file can be downloaded, emailed, put on a USB stick, etc.
I'd love to say "but great news, here is the magic solution!", but I don't have it yet. Information Rights Management is something I'm investigating, and a couple other potential avenues, but this is a work in progress. At the moment, this is simply a known disadvantage of an Excel based pricing tool versus web based.
