100 Thoughts on Pricing (and Finance): #61

Sometimes making one thing more efficient makes something else less efficient. That's life. In the world of project finance, we often focus too much of making the project setup process as automated as humanly possible, with the monthly back end (invoicing, reconciliations, rev rec, etc.) suffering from the resulting inflexibility of the automation. If a more manual timesheet setup process means your systems actually match your contract and customer reporting requirements with far less effort, let it happen. An extra hour or two on the front end is worth it if it saves you a couple hours every month after, and helps you serve customers and project teams better.
